APRIL VACATION WEEK 2022 | DORCHESTER, MA
During the week of April 18-22 (Monday - Friday), Project Misik Drumming in the Yard will meet outdoors, in Ms. Washington’s backyard, in the Dorchester neighborhood of Ashmont (you’ll receive the address through email!), to drum together! Please sign up in advance to reserve your spot!
Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult
Sign up for the time that works best for you!:
The Morning Session meets from 11am-12pm.
The Afternoon Session meets from 1-2pm.
The Late Afternoon Session meets from 5:30-6:30pm.
*MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING ARE MANDATORY*
Bring your drum if you have one. We will have a limited number of sanitized drums we can clean & use (while socially distanced) together!
April Project Misik Drumming 2022
Kera M. Washington is an musician/educator and an applied ethnomusicologist. She is the founder of the award winning band, Zili Misik, and has taught in the Boston Public Schools since 2006 — first as an Integrated Arts Teacher at the Emerson Elementary School (2006-2011, when it closed), and currently as Music Teacher at the Mather Elementary School (2011-), the first and finest!
She also is Senior Performance Faculty at Wellesley College, teaching and directing Yanvalou Drum & Dance Ensemble in the Music Department.
Through these schools and through the band, Zili Misik, Ms. Washington passes on the oral traditions she has learned (for more than 30 years!) in workshops/classes/performances for all ages!
Project M.I.S.I.K. will be joined by musician/educator Alex B. Conley, who is a Music Teacher of students with disabilities at Charlestown High School, through the partner organization, Open Door Arts.
Alex also works with other arts & non profit organizations, such as the Dance Complex, all of which promote access and opportunity in the arts.
