“THE YARD”:

* socially distancing, sanitizing shared instruments, prioritizing respect for all

** “all-a-we” — everybody is welcome!

*** particularly, musics/cultures/stories of black & brown folkx among us

OUR SOMERVILLE YARD IS OPENING AUGUST 11th!!! WE HOPE YOU’LL JOIN US THEN!

WHAT IS PROJECT MISIK: “IN A SOMERVILLE YARD”

Project Misik “In A Somerville Yard” is the brainchild of Zili founder, Kera M. Washington, who answered the call of the Somerville Arts Council to support BIPOC Artists in 2020. Here is an excerpt from Kera’s proposal:

The project that I propose is entitled “Project Misik: In A Somerville Yard.” During this project, Zili Misik will lead a series of neighborhood-based and publicly live-streamed musical experiences, which, using the lens of African diasporic arts, will invite participants to connect within and across racial lines, focusing, in Somerville, on the ways black lives and cultures matter. “Project Misik” will use the power of interactive musical experiences to break down dividing lines that encourage segregation & prevent neighbors from exchange, & will present a vehicle for the positive visibility of black folkx in these spaces.

In other words, through Project Misik: IN A SOMERVILLE YARD, Zili Misik and their featured guests are putting the spotlight on music and dance from Ghana, Zimbabwe, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago — inviting ALL into a space we will create together to learn a little bit, play music and dance, and, MOST OF ALL, TO HAVE FUN WITH EACH OTHER!!! JOIN US!!!! WE BEGIN AUGUST 11TH!!
